I used to feel so alone in the city. All those gazillions of people and then me, on the outside. Because how do you meet a new person? I was very stunned by this for many years. And then i realized, you just say, “Hi.” They may ignore you. Or you may marry them. And that possibility is worth that one word.

Oh you know, just members of the New York Mets wearing various NHL jerseys as they walk onto their team bus. Nothing to see here.

Congrats, New Grads! By the Way, You Don’t Know Anything (via jezebel)

This article is amazing. It actually makes me feel a little better about life. In the wise words of Alanis Morissette: “It’s the good advice that you just didn’t take…” So yeah, don’t be the person Alanis is singing about.

Remember what it was that made you happy before everyone else started trying to define it for you. You know what makes your heart swell. You know what makes your breath catch in your throat. You know what makes your chest tighten with anticipation. Go get that graduates, you deserve that.

I can’t believe it’s been exactly two years since I graduated from the University of Iowa. I suppose being sleep deprived can make you feel as though things are a bit of a blur (yes, we had to be there at 6:45 a.m.). Sitting next to one of my best friends Amanda, I kept thinking how surreal things felt. These moments in my life, the BIG moments, the ones I feel like I’ve been waiting forever for? Well, this was one of them. Big gowns, tired eyes, cell phones secretly out — this was graduation. Soon enough, I would be a college graduate preparing myself for the unknown, for the real world. This was growing up.

I love the above quote by Sanjay Gupta (giving during his commencement speech to the University of Michigan). From what I’ve experienced so far — two years removed from being in college — is that yes, it is really important to remember what it is that makes you happy. The real world can be a depressing place and sometimes, you may feel lost or confused trying to find your way. People may put you down, reject you, etc. Find what you love, what makes you happy, and keep going.

Anyway, this below is from my graduation when Tom Brokaw was our commencement speaker:
